Curriculum

Our service offers a range of learning opportunities to children, that are appropriate to the child’s stage of development. We are fully committed to being guided by the principles of Soila and the curriculum framework Aistear.

Aistear is Ireland’s curriculum framework for children from birth to six years. Aistear enables us as educators to plan for and provide enjoyable and challenging learning experiences, to allow children to grow and develop as competent and confident learners.

Aistear describes the types of learning (dispositions, values and attitudes, skills, and offers ideas and suggestions as to how this learning might be nurtured.

Emphasis is placed on learning through a Play-based environment which incorporates important elements of the Highscope approach. The Highscope Approach identifies the abilities, strengths and interests of each child and builds on them. The preschool room is laid out with different interest areas i.e.; home corner, quite area, construction area, water and art area. Staff members will observe closely the interests of the child and incorporate this into their learning experiences. The children’s learning will be documented through photographs, artwork, learning journeys and learning stories. All documentation will be linked to the four themes of Aistear. The children will receive individual learning story journals at the end of the year.

The Access and Inclusion Model (AIM)

AIM is a model of supports designed to ensure that children with disabilities can access the ECCE scheme. The model is designed to be responsive to the needs of each individual child in the context of their preschool setting. It can offer tailored, practical supports based on need and will not require a formal diagnosis of disability. Additional information can be found below and if you feel that your child may benefit with additional support please contact Kate.
